LIFT, in partnership with Mother’s Outreach Network, is holding a Child Tax Credit Community Conversation with Councilmember Zachary Parker on Wednesday, January 11th @ 5:30 PM, ahead of the January 24th hearing on the bill! Let’s get organized for the January 24th DCTC Council hearing to raise all of our voices and levy an impactful turnout at the hearing. Want to see a bigger payment? Want the program, if approved, to start sooner than is currently proposed. Share your ideas with the Council! Bring your recommendations for enhancements to the bill to the hearingl! And stay tuned for information about our plans for post-hearing individual Councilmember education and outreach activity. Already have plans for doing the same – we love it!
Registration is open for the January 24th DC Council Business and Economic Development Committee Hearing on the District Child Tax Credit Amendment Act of 2023! Be sure to testify: the Council needs to hear from you! It takes every one of us to build a permanent guaranteed income in Washington DC. The deadline to register for the DCTC hearing is Monday, January 22nd @ 5:00 PM!

We are thrilled to share that last Friday, the Tax Revision Commission released its recommended tax proposals and included a recommendation for enhancing the District Child Tax Credit proposal! In fact, they recommended that DC parents be eligible to receive a tax credit of up to $1,000 per child (an additional $500 per child on top of Councilmember Parker’s DCTC bill).
See below for the Chairman’s Mark, which includes all of the TRC’s recommendations.

This recommendation from the Tax Revision Commission affirms what we already know–that giving cash supports to families will make our city a better and more equitable place. We look forward to including the TRC’s recommendation in our DCTC testimony before the Council on January 24th!
